{"id":2509,"date":"2022-11-15T07:17:54","date_gmt":"2022-11-15T07:17:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elex.link\/elex2023\/?page_id=2509"},"modified":"2023-06-29T10:38:14","modified_gmt":"2023-06-29T10:38:14","slug":"workshop-on-lexicography-and-cefr","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/elex.link\/elex2023\/workshop-on-lexicography-and-cefr\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop on Lexicography and CEFR"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='flex_column av-2lqyul-e89394776c50100829ac0809eeb20e6b av_four_fifth  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  first flex_column_div '     ><section  class='av_textblock_section av-lahvu3uf-2f08c009dc09a0f26b686788e46f27a8'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Lexicography and CEFR: Linking lexicographic resources and language proficiency levels<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3>Introduction<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The workshop \u201cLexicography and CEFR: Linking lexicographic resources and language proficiency levels\u201d will be held in conjunction with eLex 2023 in Brno, Czech Republic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>WHEN: <\/strong>29 June 2023 afternoon<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>WHERE: <\/strong>the <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/oQSYN4Vu54EHyUfr9\">Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University<\/a> (a 15-minute walk from Hotel Passage \u2013 the eLex conference venue)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The focus is lexicographic projects connected with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The main objectives are to examine approaches and methods used for linking lexicographic data and language proficiency levels and to discuss strategies for converging lexicographic resources with CEFR-based language learning programs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CEFR<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a generally established international standard for describing language proficiency, and CEFR<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-graded resources have been developed for many languages in Europe. However, incorporating their information is still not a general practice in modern lexicography for most languages, except for two English dictionaries for advanced learners (Cambridge and Oxford). Moreover, there are substantial unsolved issues, such as inconsistencies in vocabulary size per level between languages; no, or limited, sense disambiguation in CEFR resources; \u200bwords from a higher CEFR level in definitions and example sentences; and limited collaboration among the related fields of lexicography, language acquisition, and\u00a0linguistic linked data.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Topics<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The workshop will feature an overview by the organizers as well as invited talks.
